 | LiveWise is a regional substance abuse prevention system representing the six-county area of eastern Nebraska that includes Cass, Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy, Saunders, and Washington counties.
LiveWise is a multi-cultural alliance representing a regional coalition and four local chapters. LiveWise Vision. The collaborative leadership of LiveWise unites and empowers local communities through comprehensive education and strategies aimed at motivating individuals to change societal norms reflecting healthy lifestyles free from the problems caused by the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD). |
The Issue |
Alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) use among youth within the region continues to be a problem. It appears that the primary contributing factors are: ■ Availability of these substances ■ Favorable attitudes in the community by youth and parents ■ Low commitment to school ■ Low perceived risk of harm ■ Early initiation to anti-social behaviors |
The Response |
Local chapters are part of a region-wide system looking to change community conditions fostering the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) by: ■ Reducing the number of youth displaying low commitment to school ■ Reducing the number of youth who fail to perceive drug use as harmful ■ Reducing drug use related health disparities among racial and ethnic minority populations ■ Reducing the number of parents with favorable attitudes toward drugs ■ Reducing the availability of alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana to youth ■ Reducing the number of youth involved in antisocial behaviors |
Local People Solve Local Problems Best |
Together, members of local coalitions will help bring about the necessary changes that will ultimately make our communities safe, strong and healthy. We want the youth of our communities to live healthy lives, free from the problems caused by the use of alcohol, tobacco and other substances. |
