About LiveWise

The Power to Live Substance Free

The LiveWise Regional Coalition is a diverse group of volunteers serving a five county area (Cass, Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy & Washington) whose focus is to prevent the use or abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. We accomplish this goal by changing social norms through increased awareness, education, and community activities. The bottom line is that the work we do is all about keeping our community safe and drug free.

LiveWise Mission

To prevent the use or abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) through collaborative planning and the leveraging of resources.

LiveWise Vision

Communities empowered to change societal norms reflecting healthy lifestyles free from problems caused by the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

The Issue

Alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use our communities within the region continues to be a problem. It appears that the contributing factors are:

  • Availability of these substances
  • Favorable attitudes in the community by youth and parents
  • Low commitment to school
  • Low perceived risk of harm in their use
  • Early initiation to anti-social behaviors
  • Favorable social norms towards ATOD use (i.e. underage drinking as a rite of passage)

The Response

Local Chapters are part of a region-wide system looking to change community conditions fostering the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs by:

  • Reducing the number of youth displaying low commitment to school
  • Reducing the number of youth who fail to perceive drug use as harmful
  • Reducing drug use related health disparities among racial and ethnic minority populations
  • Reducing the number of parents with favorable attitudes towards drugs
  • Reducing the availability of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs to youth
  • Reducing the number of youth involved with anti-social behavior
