The course will review fundamentals of Aaron Beck’s cognitive behavioral model as applied to both depression and suicide\, cognitive behavioral strategies for structuring sessions\, including setting a collaborative agenda\, and under-standing transdiagnostic outpatient protocols in Cognitive Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CT-SP).Specific techniques central to this approach will be emphasized\, including assessing and engaging treatment motivation\, conducting ongoing suicide risk assessment\, supporting patients in telling their suicide narrative\, developing a safety plan\, building skills such as cognitive restructuring\, distress tolerance\, and problem solving\, instilling hope\, and preventing relapse. Attendees will practice learned strategies through demonstrations and break-out sessions.This training meets the requirements for 18 CEUs for Nebraska and Iowa licensed mental health practitioners\, social workers\, and professional counselors.
