JUSTICE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH
Working Together Across Systems
Region 6 Behavioral Healthcare works with partners across multiple systems of care to improve coordination, strengthen access to treatment and support better outcomes for individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
Individuals living with mental illness often encounter multiple systems, including justice (law enforcement and corrections), behavioral health providers and community-based support services.
Through the Stepping Up framework, Region 6 helps communities identify gaps and implement data-driven strategies that can lead to measurable reductions in the number of people with mental illness in our local jails.

Stepping Up is a national initiative to reduce the number of people with mental illnesses

The policies, programs and practices we work toward are
informed by their impact on the following measures:
- Reducing the number of people who have mental illnesses booked into jails.
- Shorten the length of stay in jails for people with mental illnesses.
- Increase connections to care for people who have mental illnesses.
- Reduce recidivism rates for people who have mental illnesses.
