Supporting Stability through Housing
Stable housing is an important part of recovery and long-term independence. Region 6 Behavioral Healthcare helps eligible individuals access rental assistance through housing programs designed to reduce barriers for those who need it.
Our housing voucher programs are intended for individuals who meet specific requirements.
REGIONAL RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Regional Rental Assistance Program (RRAP) assists with access to decent, safe and affordable housing for eligible adults who are recovering from a serious mental illness and have extremely low income.
This program works much like the federal Housing Choice Voucher Program, also known as Section 8. For eligible participants in the Region 6 area, rental assistance may be available. In some cases, assistance with security deposits or utility deposits may also be provided.
Regional Rental Assistance Program Eligibility
To be eligible for the Regional Rental Assistance Program, individuals must:
- Must have applied for Section 8 (if available) and/or other housing programs, such as General Assistance, income-based housing or other housing assistance programs in your area
- Be referred by one of our network providers
- Have a diagnosed severe and persistent mental illness
- Be age 19 or older
- Live in Cass, Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy or Washington County
- Meet low-income requirements in accordance with federal definitions
- Be a U.S. citizen or have legal immigration status
- Be receiving ongoing behavioral case management services
- Must have applied for Section 8 (if available) and/or other housing programs, such as General Assistance, income-based housing or other housing assistance programs in your area
TRANSITION AGE YOUTH RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Transition Age Youth Rental Assistance Program (TAYRAP) is a rental assistance program supporting young adults from the age of 18–25. Like RRAP, this program functions similarly to the Federal Housing Choice Voucher Program, operated by public housing authorities. TAYRAP provides temporary rental assistance while helping young adults with independent living and the transition from youth into adulthood.
Participants are responsible for finding their own suitable housing within the geographic area covered by Region 6. Because the housing assistance is a temporary subsidy, it ends before the individual turns 26.
Transition Age Youth Rental Assistance Program Eligibility
To be eligible for the Transition Age Youth Rental Assistance Program, individuals must:
- Have a diagnosed severe and persistent mental illness
- Be referred by one of our network providers
- Be between the ages of 18 and 25, planning to transition to housing without our rental assistance by age 26
- Live in Cass, Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy or Washington County
- Meet low-income requirements in accordance with federal definitions
- Be a U.S. citizen or have legal immigration status
- Be receiving ongoing behavioral case management services
- Must have applied for Section 8 (if available) and/or other housing programs, such as General Assistance, income-based housing or other housing assistance programs in your area
